6:04 am – Got up
7:43 am – Off we go
As we were going out, we saw Tetsuo-san pull over. He was about to send off another guest so we were able to hitch a ride to Yamashina station.
8:17 am – Yamashina station
8:27 am – Kyoto station
9:31 am – Kintetsu-Nara station
9:51 am – Kofukuji temple
This was my first visit to Kofukuji. We didn’t go there last time.
How to get there: It’s just a five-minute walk from Kintetsu-Nara station. The temple is located south east of the station.
We didn’t really visit the paid attractions but from what I read, the National Treasure Museum and Eastern Golden Hall are open from 9 am to 5 pm. The fees are 600JPY and 300JPY respectively. Or you can get both for a discounted price of 800JPY.
11:08 am – Todaiji
How to get there: Todaiji is about a half an hour walk from Kintetsu-Nara station. I can’t really say much about using the buses as I haven’t used them before. The best approach would be to go through Nandaimon gate.
They have different opening times depending on the season. From November to February, they are open from 8 am to 4:30 pm, 8 am to 4 pm on March, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm from April to September, and 7:30 am to 5 pm on October. The entrance fee is 500JPY to see the Daibutsuden.
1:03 pm – Lunch
1:43 pm – Nigatsudo
3:05 pm – Yoshikien garden
How to get there: Yoshikien is around a 15-minute walk from Kintetsu-Nara station. So far, all the places in Nara I’ve been to were all walking distances.
The garden is open from 9 am to 5 pm. Though they are closed from December 28 until the end of February.
The entrance fee is 250JPY but admission is free for foreign tourists. You just have to show your passport and you’re good to go.
4:22 pm – Kintetsu-Nara station
5:37 pm – Kyoto station
6:37 pm – Hanamikoji dori
We passed by this building on the way to the bus stop. I have no idea what goes on in there. Is it a theater or something?
7:58 pm – At apartment
10:32 pm – Sleep
